The Mess in the Back Parking Lot, Explained

We can’t keep it quiet any longer! Now that it’s finally beginning to look like something other than a big mess in our back parking lot, we thought it was a great time to share our BIG news with you.

We’re adding a new outdoor dining space!

In 2020, a lot changed in the restaurant industry. One major change we’ve seen is the demand for outdoor dining. You all want it! So we’re making it happen.

Our brand new back patio dining area will offer a cozy covered space, a little set back from the bustle of the village and sheltered from the elements, while still being open air. There will be shade; there will be heat; and while all of the details have not been worked out yet, there will hopefully be reservations available! Of course we’ve always offered patio dining, weather permitting, on our front patio. But with no cover, our ability to seat depended so much on the weather that we’ve never been able to guarantee outdoor space. The new space will add 40 seats to our restaurant. This expansion is huge for us, and probably the biggest change we’ve made to the Terrapin dining experience since we moved from West Hurley to Rhinebeck – back in 2003!

Attached are a few architectural renderings (not actual photos) of the new project. This is not a small undertaking and we expect work to continue well into the fall season. It’s likely we will not be able to seat the space until early spring, but we know you’ve all been curious, so we wanted to share our plans with you.

The new space has been designed to meld with the aesthetics of our historic building, and we’re doing everything we can to be sure it adds to the beauty and charm of Rhinebeck.

Our parking lot is temporarily closed for your safety while heavy machinery is involved in the construction process. Once safe, there will be parking available behind the new structure. We’ve also made arrangements with the Church of the Messiah next door; there are 11 additional parking spaces available for our customers in the church lot after 5pm daily.

We invite you to follow along on Instagram or Facebook, where we’ll share our progress and peeks into the new space as progress is made. We also recommend subscribing to our e-mail newsletter for updates, if you don’t already.

As always, thanks for your unending support that’s allowed us to thrive and grow in the Hudson Valley for the last 25 years! We really hope that you are as excited as we are about this new addition. We can’t wait to share our new space with you.
